Movies should not enter OTT before 50 days of their theatrical run – TFPC

According to the current trend, filmmakers have been selling the post theatrical streaming rights of a movie to certain OTT platforms and announcing the release date within 3-4 weeks of its theatrical run. And at the same time, audiences are waiting for OTT releases and skipping theatrical releases.

So, to create theatrical experiences among the people, the Telugu Film Producers Council came with a proper commitment regarding the same. They said from July 1st, 2022 onwards every theatrical release, which made the agreement with OTT platforms, must progress a film’s theatrical run for 50 days.

Further, they ordered that a film shall make its OTT debut, after the completion of its 50 days run in theatres only. The council expressed that this is because of people’s absence at the theatres, even if it is the biggest movie.

Not only for OTT, it is also necessary for theatre owners to gain profits if the film is highly-spirited. The distributors or producers who release the film, strike a hire deal and release in their theatres. For a movie, which is hired for 2.0 lakhs, all it collects goes only to the theatre owner. So, is the loss.
